What is Chiropractic Treatment?

Chiropractic offer a hands-on approach to alleviate pain and improve function, addressing the cause of the problem at its source. We conduct a detailed examinations to determine if chiropractic is the right treatment for you. Treatment is mainly focused on the function of the neuromusculoskeletal system (nerves, muscles and joints).

Many Different forms of Chiropractic treatment are available

If you dislike or have a preference for a particular treatment method, please inform your chiropractor. There are many different ways for us to treat the same area, as detailed below, and we like to ensure the comfort of our patients.

Treatments offered include:

Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT)

Chiropractors primarily use a technique called spinal manipulative therapy. It helps to reduce pain and correct dysfunction in joints and muscles, treating the cause. SMT is a precise, high velocity, low amplitude (high speed, low force) thrust that is delivered by the hands to the dysfunctional joint

Mobilisations

Mobilisations are an alternative to SMT. They are  slower more prolonged movements that are applied to the spine, or joints of the body, to help improve ranges of motion.

Massage, fascial release and trigger point therapy

Massage, fascial release, and trigger point therapy can be used to treat the muscular pain and fascial dysfunction causing, or associated with your problem.

Activator

This spring-loaded tool was designed in order to increase the precision of the adjustment procedure. The activator is a great alternative to SMT for patients with osteoporosis or those who do not like some SMT techniques. This is because of the tools' high level of precision, and the ability to fine tune the amount of forces but still give the same benefits!

Kinesio-Tape (K-Tape)

'Kinesio Taping', or sports taping, is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process by providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. By providing extended soft tissue manipulation it is thought to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. It is widely used in sport, thought to enhance performance, and in clinic to reduce post-treatment soreness or support acute pain patients

SOT Blocks or Wedges

Sacro-occipital technique uses these wedges under a patients' pelvis so that the weight of their body and gravity creates the adjustment to their pelvis. Often used instead of SMT and in combination with an activator and/or various massage techniques.

Thompson Drops (toggle)

The patient lies on a special table with sections that move up by less than an inch. The chiropractor applies a quick light thrust, and at the same time the section drops back to the start position. Like the activator, the dropping of the table mimics the classic SMT movements and can act as an alternative if more comfortable for the patient.
